Lyrics

As friends or Fighters

Is it on as friends or fighters
Leave alone what’s undecided
When we’re dead, I doubt we’ll remember it
Showed our claws
This battle will go on so long, until exhaustion
Wars like these, (ho!) no one ever wins

In the end you let me down
Now settle down and breathe
That’s why I let you down
Now let it go and leave

The first stone you cast you told me
Left alone, for that you blame me
That I don’t know how to be a friend
All I did, (ho) tried and tested
Stopped on the road, finally rested
(Lays) down my arms, ‘cause times they always change

In the end you let me down
Now settle down and breathe
That’s why I let you down
Now let it go and leave

Hey stranger

Stranger – tell me why it looks older
Around me
Every single day?
The stranger – misty lamplights blurred us
On the night bus
He was half invisible

And his ageless eyes
Burnt into my mind
his reflection was a formless shape in the window
He told tales in a whispered tone
Dark yellow nails from the smoke
As junk food and a lack of sleep piled up
The night bus is a nowhere zone
Like forgotten souls far from home
With bad  jokes, unspoken guilt and love

Stranger – tell me who made the watchhands move?
And if you don’t know
What’s the point of you?
The stranger – told me all of his secrets
A death  head ring
Underlined the truth

And his angel’s eyes
Burnt into my mind
I drank so much the clockhands got all blurred
He offered me a silver flask
Mystery absinthe from his past
With misted windows God knows where we were
He may have lifted a secret veil
With shaking hands and filthy nails
But the joke’s on me, I’ve forgotten all I heard…

Lordship Lane

Smiling on the mantlepiece sat a china cat
My grandad used to make it talk and I still believe in that
That cat used to tell my future and imitate sitcom stars
And sometimes gave my grandad tips for Kempton Park
That time is past, just not in my heart

I still remember – Lordship Lane and that light in his eyes
I still remember – now I know how hard it is sometimes
I can’t go back there – its like I made space my home
I still remember – no-one said I should take notes

One day my brother and my grandad went out down Lordship Lane
And the china cat purred out loud and it sounded like my name
I thought I heard « lock this down, burn it into your heart »
The radio said a Starman had rung a girl by chance

That time is past, just not in my heart
I still remember – Lordship Lane and that light in his eyes
I still remember – spaceships blinked across the sky
I can’t go back there – my tin can orbits far above our world.
I still remember – my Grandad saying « hey is that a girl? »

Painting flowers (all over town)

Dipping in and out of sleep
Like dipping my feet into the sea
I found a shining flower paint tin
Magically always filled

Painting flowers all over town (we ran around)

It took one stripe from my brush
To cover a house in flowers with just a touch
I flew across the city leaving a floral path
The river shone with flowers and the greenest grass

Painting flowers all over town (we ran around)
